If I may answer for Dave, the "starburst" holdfast shows no signs of pores. They were somewhat common,and I grabbed one for myself as well.
My book describes them as the eroded holdfast for a Cleiocrinus, and the picture looks nearly identical. I think they are probably a related species, due to the small size, averaging about 3/8 inch or less.
